Balancing Motherhood and Housekeeping With Littles

Balancing Motherhood and Housekeeping

With Littles

It’s a challenge to keep a tidy and clean house when you haven’t slept in 2 days, your body aches and your head is pounding from the incessant yelling of your precious toddlers. Balancing motherhood and housekeeping with Littles requires courage, patience, perseverance, and lots of prayer. Philippians 4:13 declares, “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.” If you place your faith in Jesus and trust Him to give you the strength you need you can and will achieve this goal.

Sometimes you feel so overwhelmed by motherhood that housekeeping becomes an afterthought. Your home quickly becomes a haven for germs, dust mites, and smelly laundry. On the other hand, you may overwork yourself striving for perfection so you neglect the people who matter most. Your house sparkles and shines, and the laundry is neatly folded but your spouse and children feel neglected and your home feels cold.

It takes courage to admit when you’re overwhelmed and when you need help. It’s easy to hide behind the excuses you create for yourself and ignore the need for intervention, change, and ultimately balance. Only you can change the narrative of your story with help from the Holy Spirit. So which mother do you want to be? The mother with no self-control, the perfectionist, or the one who courageously manages her home and children God’s way?

Being a godly mother and homemaker is God's idea (Titus 2:3-5) and He wants you to do these jobs well. Colossians 3:23-24 declares, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men, knowing that from the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ.” The Lord also knows you may not always feel adequate or motivated to do it all and sometimes the load you carry feels too heavy to bear. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

How can you balance motherhood and homemaking well when you're low on energy or lack motivation? Go to the source of all energy and inspiration—The Lord God Almighty. Pray and trust Him to give you the strength and the motivation needed to do your work well and consistently. If you constantly pray and see no results perhaps you need to change your prayer, your heart, or your perspective.

If you are pregnant, sick, or physically unable to do certain tasks ask for help. Be willing to receive help and be thankful. If help is not available do your best and trust God to send you the help you need in His time.

If you struggle with perfection pray to the One who is perfect and ask for a heavy dose of humility. Lay down your desire to have everything just right and focus on the people who matter most. Be willing to accept that your house is less than perfect sometimes if it means that your marriage and family are nourished and loved.

Have faith in God. Trust in His promises. He promises to provide all your needs according to His unlimited supply. (Philippians 4:19) Rely on His strength during hard times and turn to Him daily for guidance. You can and will balance motherhood and homemaking in the season of Littles by faith. You will not be crushed under the weight of it all because the Lord will hold you up and keep you steady if you trust Him. (Psalm 89:21)
